The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of star power, but need obvious improvements to the roster. If the Lakers are to be considered NBA title contenders, they need to add some defensive pieces. Dillon Brooks is a name that’s been mentioned, but Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia has already shut down the trade idea.
Brooks is having an excellent season with the Suns so far. He’s helped change the team’s culture while producing at a high level. DeMarcus Cousins recently backed the idea of Brooks being moved for Austin Reaves. Ishbia didn’t like it, however, and made his stance clear in a post on X.

“Don’t bother calling… Suns aren’t interested. Dillon’s not going anywhere,” Ishbia wrote in response to Boogie’s take. This is a strong stance for an owner to take about a role player like Brooks. He may be performing at a high level now, but so has Austin Reaves.
In any case, the idea that the Lakers might part with a borderline All-Star like Reaves for Brooks is a bit preposterous. They would also want better athletes than Brooks to fill out this team. And it’s hard to imagine LA giving up Reaves in any trade that’s not for a certified superstar.

This vote of confidence from the owner has to feel good for Brooks, though. The Suns enjoyed a clutch win against the Oklahoma City Thunder in their last game, and things are looking up for the franchise. No wonder the team’s owner is so vehemently against a trade for one of their key pieces.
