The Dallas Mavericks have officially entered the Cooper Flagg era after the sacking of GM Nico Harrison. The vision he had of an NBA championship contender built around Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving is dead. And Davis’ future in Dallas is far from certain, although there is now an update.
In his brief time with the Mavericks, all of AD’s issues have been more than apparent. His availability and durability remain a problem. Even when he has played, Davis’ production is clearly not what it used to be. It makes sense for Dallas to trade him, but reportedly, that’s not what the big man wants.

“AD’s preference would be to stay in Dallas and to get that extension this summer,” NBA insider Tim MacMahon said on ESPN. “As far as the outlook goes, the Mavericks are trying to generate a good trade market for Anthony Davis.
“That is difficult because of the durability issues, and I think more so the dollars. In a situation like this, Rich Paul is going to be involved. They are going to want AD traded somewhere that is willing to give him a long, lucrative extension.”

AD’s wanting to stay complicates matters a little. If the superstar and Klutch make a trade difficult, this could really impact what Dallas can get in return. This latest Davis future update raises more questions than it answers, but both parties will likely figure out a mutually beneficial solution.
