The Celtics cruised to their fourth straight win on Monday night against the Bulls with a big assist from their bench.
Backup guard Anfernee Simons led all scorers with 27 points in the victory, making him Monday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. Simons did all of his scoring damage after intermission, catching fire after missing all three of his shots in the first half. He knocked down 9 of his 13 attempts in the second half including eight from 3-point range which helped carry Boston’s offense on a tough shooting night for the team (40 percent from the field).
The 27 points marks a season-best performance for Simons from a scoring standpoint and highlights a very consistent stretch from the veteran guard. The 26-year-old has now scored in double figures in five straight games and eight of his last nine overall.
Simons has done most of his damage from beyond the arc, where he’s made four or more 3-point attempts in four straight games. That production has helped Boston’s second unit sustain great success, as Boston has won eight of their last nine games with those contributions.
The Celtics now sit in second place in the Eastern Conference for the first time all season after their fourth straight win. They will try to sustain that momentum in the next game of their homestand on Wednesday night against a Nuggets team playing without Nikola Jokic.
