After weeks of talk about the Milwaukee Bucks and whether they would trade their All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo, Monday brought shocking news to the NBA world.
An Eastern All-Star on a team that wants to contend is in the process of trading their franchise player, but it’s not Giannis or the Bucks.
It’s the Atlanta Hawks.
ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania broke the massive news that the Hawks are working with their cornerstone player, Trae Young, to trade him to a new team as soon as possible.
Young and his agents are already in progressive talks with the Hawks to find the point guard a new home, and it appears as if it is sooner rather than later that Atlanta will deal the man who has been the face of their franchise for the past decade.
Selected fifth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 Draft, he has forever been tied to the trade that sent him to Atlanta and Luka Doncic to Texas. While he hasn’t reached the same heights as the Slovenian megastar, Young has carved out his own legacy in the league, being named an All-Star four times and making the All-NBA third team in the 2021-22 season.
One of the league’s best passers and talisman, Young should have no shortage of suitors on the trade market. He averaged 11.6 assists last season, which was a career high and led the NBA.
Teams linked to a possible Young trade include the Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, and the Dallas Mavericks.
With it coming out that a trade may happen at any time, there could be more teams to enter the mix in the coming hours and days as the Hawks attempt to make a deal for their star point guard.
The 17-20 Hawks’ next game is against those rumored Raptors in Toronto, as both teams are fighting for a playoff spot in the wide-open Eastern Conference.
