“On the verge” – Fabrizio Romano has latest on new Chelsea manager search

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has the latest info on Chelsea’s new manager search as it draws to a conclusion.

To be honest, I’ve been pretty adamant that this has already been done for days now and it’s just a case of ticking a few boxes before an announcement is made – expected to come very soon now.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea in for Ivory Coast international winger!

Everyone has already been talking like Liam Rosenior is the new Chelsea manager, so I think it’s always just been a matter of when it is confirmed rather than if it is confirmed.

The Strasbourg manager has been described as a ‘logical choice’ to become the next Chelsea manager even though he’s not a big name like Jose Mourinho.

But now, Rosenior is on the verge of being announced as the new Chelsea head coach to succeed Enzo Maresca, who was sacked on the first day of 2026 last week.

Romano posted on his X account over night, and said:

“Liam Rosenior, on the verge of being appointed as new Chelsea head coach this week — confirmed.

“Positive meetings in last 24h in London with Chelsea hierarchy and agreement at final stages.

“RC Strasbourg to name new head coach soon as next key step.”

I believe it will be confirmed in just hours

Rosenior is doing a press conference back in France at 8.30am UK time today, so I believe this will be him announcing that he is the new Chelsea head coach whilst saying his proper goodbyes to Strasbourg and the players.

It will be the official communication that will confirm the obvious, in the shape of a proper press conference now.
