Liverpool must learn from Arsenal in the transfer window and maximise ‘incredible’ star’s potential - opinion

Liverpool and Arsenal have been rivals on the pitch for many years now, but the Reds might have to start taking tips from the league leaders.

The Reds might be unbeaten in nine games, but their performances have been incredibly poor, and their fixtures do not get much easier either.

Up next for them is Arsenal, who now sit six points clear at the top of the table after the latest round of fixtures, 14 points above Liverpool.

Why won’t Liverpool follow Man United’s lead and SACK Arne Slot?

As much as Reds fans will hate to admit it, there is a lot they could learn from the way the Gunners are going about things, with it looking like a few of the changes they have made will mean they finally lift the Premier League title.

There is one thing in particular they have done too that Liverpool should probably copy, as if they do, it could unlock one star’s full potential.

Arsenal signing a holding midfielder has maximised Declan Rice’s output, Liverpool can do the same with Ryan Gravenberch

One thing Arsenal did over the summer was to recruit a holding midfielder, with this being Martin Zubimendi, a player who previously rejected Liverpool.

To make matters worse, he has been exceptional since arriving, with the stability he has added allowing Declan Rice to go forwards and flex his attacking muscles.

Their midfield now has the perfect balance, showing how important a defensive midfielder is to the team, meaning Liverpool should take notes.

If they recruit one in the summer, they can push Ryan Gravenberch further forward and into his old position, with this being where he could go on to another level.

This would be a frightening prospect too given how ‘incredible’ he currently is, but Ryan Babel said he has more to give going forward, so now it might be time to test that.

The good thing for Liverpool is that there are plenty of options to choose from, but it feels more likely that they will go for someone Premier League-proven.

The obvious candidate is Adam Wharton, with the Crystal Palace midfielder well-admired by almost every team in the league.

At just 21, he also fits the profile Liverpool might be looking for as they aim to build for the future, with the ceiling he has being incredibly high.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is another name that has been linked, although Man United seem very keen to sign him too, meaning that whoever they go for, they will face stiff competition and likely have to splash the cash once again.
