As of right now, Manchester City has only two fit senior centre-backs. Abdukodir Khusanov and Nathan Ake look to be the centre-back pairing that Pep Guardiola will use in Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Brighton on Wednesday night. John Stones and Ruben Dias are out due to muscle injuries. Josko Gvardiol will likely be sidelined for the remainder of this season due to a fractured right leg. Pep Guardiola’s squad is light on for centre-backs. Yesterday saw City recall impressive young centre-back Max Alleyne from his loan spell at Watford. Alleyne now has an opportunity to impress at City for the foreseeable future.
Manchester City have recalled Max Alleyne from his loan spell at Watford.
Watford announced yesterday on their official website that Manchester City had recalled Max Alleyne from his loan spell at the club. Alleyne made 17 appearances in all competitions for Watford, with 14 of those coming in the Championship. Alleyne impressed as a ball-playing centre-back and he more than held his own physically in the Championship. His strength and timing of a challenge caught the eye as did his ability to win duels when required as a young defender learning his craft against seasoned professionals.

Max Alleyne now has an opportunity to impress at City.
Ever since impressing in Manchester City’s academy, Max Alleyne has always seemed to have the potential and talent to be a City centre-back. He has all of the necessary skills in possession and he looks to have all of the makings of a quality defender. He spent the first half of this season on loan at Watford in his first real loan spell away from City in his career. Alleyne impressed at Watford and in Manchester City’s hour of need they have brought him back to the club.
Max Alleyne now has an opportunity to impress in the City first team. It has come through the injury crisis suffered by Manchester City’s first-choice centre-backs. But the misfortune of others could be the opportunity that Max Alleyne needs. He likely won’t be a regular starter but he will get opportunities to play. If he can seize them it could establish Alleyne as a defender that City can rely on.
Manchester City have made good move by recalling Max Alleyne from his loan spell at Watford. After spending six months playing in the Championship Alleyne should be physically ready to play in City’s first team. He is also brought up in the City way so he should be ready to help his team’s cause when called upon.
