Trevoh Chalobah insists Chelsea are "going to need everyone" in the coming weeks as the club look to overcome a challenging period.

Enzo Maresca left the Blues on New Year's Day and Liam Rosenior is expected to take over from the Italian in the coming days. The Strasbourg boss travelled to London on Sunday in order to meet with Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, with the club looking to install a replacement promptly.

Calum McFarlane led the team to a 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday, with Chalobah instrumental in keeping the likes of Erling Haaland at bay for most of the match.

"I’m really proud of the boys," the defender said. "We spoke about our spirit, and we knew that’s what was needed today.

"You can talk about tactics, but it’s the spirit, the mentality and the togetherness that really showed today. When we were 1-0 down in the first half, we supported each other and kept each other up.

"To come here and get a point against a very good side that’s in form at the moment is unbelievable for us, and I’m really happy for the team."

The 26-year-old, who was partnered by Benoit Badiashile at the heart of the defence, revealed the senior players in the group lifted spirits in the second half in Manchester.

"In the second half, we showed even more energy," Chalobah said. "That’s what we have needed to work on this season. It’s football – sometimes you go 1-0 down. We had another 45 minutes to make things right, and we came out with our heads up, wanting to get the result.

"In these moments, it’s when you need players like Reece and me, and the senior lads, to lift the spirits, keep the guys going, and in this moment now we need to be together more than ever. We’re going to need everyone."

With Rosenior expected to be announced in the coming days, the 41-year-old could well be in the dugout for the Blues' trip to Fulham on Wednesday. If not, Chelsea face Charlton in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. Chalobah insists the squad must build on the positive performance at Man City and take that into the new few weeks.

"For us, this is a big point going into a busy month," he said. "We have a lot of games this month, and it’s a good way to start the new year. For us, it’s just onto the next game. The more games we play, the more consistency we get."
