Fabrizio Romano gives Liam Rosenior and Chelsea update after key meetings on Monday

Chelsea have made it pretty clear who they want to be the new permanent manager of the club following Enzo Maresca’s sacking.

Liam Rosenior emerged early on as the favourite to take over the responsibility following his work with fellow BlueCo club Strasbourg.

Calum McFarlane took charge of the game against Manchester City, and the interim manager is expected to lead the Blues against Fulham too on Wednesday.

The potential new coach flew to London during the game at the Etihad, and it was originally expected that Rosenior would be appointed by now.

Liam Rosenior announcement expected this week after ‘positive meetings’

However, Fabrizio Romano has stated that the announcement is now expected to come at some point this week.

He took to Twitter to state that ‘positive meetings’ had occurred between both parties on Monday, however the need for Strasbourg to find a new manager has stopped it happening so far.

He said: “Liam Rosenior, on the verge of being appointed as new Chelsea head coach this week — confirmed. Positive meetings in last 24h in London with Chelsea hierarchy and agreement at final stages. RC Strasbourg to name new head coach soon as next key step.”

Former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has been strongly linked with taking the job at the Ligue 1 side, after he turned down a return to his former side late in 2025.

Rosenior being quietly tipped for good things at Chelsea

Many will believe Rosenior’s move to Stamford Bridge has come earlier than everyone would like, but there are still some figures very excited about what is to come from him at his new side.

Wayne Rooney has waxed lyrical over Rosenior’s coaching ability from his time working with him at Derby County.

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have previously trusted Rosenior with the responsibility of their top loanees, one of those being current blue Liam Delap.

The striker will be one of the most excited players about the change of manager in West London, as well as Andrey Santos after he played a starring role under him in France.
