Knicks owner James Dolan says they won't raise the banner for winning the NBA Cup because they plan to raise a championship banner instead.
The New York Knicks haven’t raised a meaningful banner at Madison Square Garden in a long time, and an NBA Cup title seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally add a new one to the rafters. However, the team has decided against it.

Knicks owner James Dolan made it clear that the organization has no plans to raise an NBA Cup banner, saying their focus is on something bigger.
“We are going to raise the banner. We’re going to raise the NBA championship banner. That’s what we’re going to raise,” Dolan said, via Stefan Bondy of The New York Post.
The decision is somewhat puzzling, especially since the previous NBA Cup champions—the Los Angeles Lakers in 2023 and the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024—both raised banners to commemorate their victories.
Still, the Knicks appear confident in their long-term goals. They are currently one of the favorites to emerge from the Eastern Conference, sitting third in the standings with a 23–13 record and legitimate championship aspirations this season.
