Chelsea are monitoring Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, and may make a summer move for the Italian international.
The 25-year old has a contract with Newcastle that runs until 2029, having recently signed a new deal with the North-East club.
Although Chelsea have a strong midfield currently, there are concerns about the lack of depth in the squad. Andriy Santos remains unproven, whilst Romeo Lavia’s continued injury struggles mean he may not be a long-term option.
And there is also the feeling around Stamford Bridge that the squad in general needs more experience, and players who are already proven in the Premier League.
Newcastle, though, will not want to let Tonali go, regarding him as an important part of the project under Eddie Howe. They also feels that the player owes them some loyalty in return for sticking with him during his lengthy suspension for illegal betting back in Italy.
