Liverpool are closing on the signing of defender Mor Ndiaye as the Reds plot reinforcements.
The ECHO reported that the Senegal U17s World Cup star will join Rob Page's under-21s while talks are ongoing to sign highly-rated stopper Ifeanyi Ndukwe. Should the move for Ndiaye be completed, Amara Nallo could leave the club on loan this month, in a bid to earn first-team experience.
Nallo has had an unfortunate start to his professional career after he was dismissed in his first Champions League and Carabao Cup outings against PSV Eindhoven and Crystal Palace, respectively. In the report, our Liverpool correspondent Paul Gorst adds that the Reds' global head of talent Matt Newberry is leading the push for the additions.
In other news, Liverpool face competition in their pursuit of signing Marc Guehi. BBC Sport have reported that City are considering a move for Guehi following a double injury setback for Pep Guardiola's team.
Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are expected to spend some time out of action after sustaining injuries during the 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
The 25-year-old's situation has piqued interest, with a potential move in January on the cards. According to the report, European powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also showing interest.
It adds that Liverpool are keen on Guehi, but it remains uncertain whether they will need to accelerate their plans following suggestions that they were planning to wait until the summer.
The Reds are being linked with alternatives from across Europe and Sport France have claimed that they are "very keen" on Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell.
Cresswell made the move to France from Leeds United, where he was a highly-rated defender for the Elland Road club. The 23-year-old made 14 senior appearances for the Whites, while having a fruitful loan spell at Millwall, before his move into Europe.
The outlet claims that Liverpool are joined by Newcastle United and Manchester City, who are monitoring his progress with the view to acquiring his services.
Arne Slot faces depleted defensive options following injury to Giovanni Leoni. The Italian talent was ruled out for the rest of the season after needing surgery on the knee injury that he suffered on his debut against Southampton.
Following the sale of Jarell Quansah in the summer, Liverpool have been left with limited alternatives to the everpresent partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Joe Gomez can play at centre-back or right-back but he has struggled to shake off recurring injuries that have led to time on the sidelines.
Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch have both been deployed in the position, however the Japanese international has been injured since December. So far this term, Gravenberch's time at centre-back has been during the match when Slot rings positional changes to salvage something from a match.
The Dutchman has come underfire for the recent spate of dismal results. Despite Liverpool being nine unbeaten, performances haven't been convincing with poor defending and pedestrian attacking play.
