£35m player’s move to Liverpool is now ‘starting to look possible’ this month - journalist

Liverpool’s 2026 January transfer window hasn’t been great so far as they could potentially miss out on some big names.

It emerged last week that, after links to Merseyside, Antoine Semenyo is close to a Manchester City transfer.

But the Bournemouth ace may not be the only player the Sky Blues snatch away from Liverpool this month.

Reports have now emerged claiming that Man City are exploring a January move for Marc Guehi, who was wanted by the Reds last summer and linked going into the winter.

However, Liverpool may finally have been handed some good news on the transfer front this week.

Liverpool could still sign Joel Ordonez

Reports in South America initially claimed that Joel Ordonez is ‘one signature away’ from moving to Anfield.

However, that did not appear to be the case, with a further update from Fabrizio Romano saying Liverpool are merely scouting Ordonez.

A blow for those fans who want to see a centre-back added to the squad this month, of course.

But an update from journalist Dean Jones on the RANKS FC Patreon this week has given some hope that a move for the stopper could still go ahead before the transfer deadline.

He wrote: “A move taking Joel Ordonez to Liverpool is starting to look possible. Ibrahima Konate’s contract saga rolls on.”

How happy would you be if Liverpool sign Joel Ordonez?

A move is reportedly on the verge of being sealed!

Joel Ordonez’s potential transfer fee and wage

Should the centre-back indeed secure a move to Liverpool this winter, we may have some idea about the potential finances involved.

Bola Vip claimed recently that Ordonez could cost the Premier League champions somewhere in the region of €40m, which is around £35m.

Similarly, they suggested his wage may be around $4m a year, which is the equivalent of £2.97m.

In comparison, Liverpool offered £35m for Guehi in the most recent summer window but couldn’t get a deal over the line.
