Brighton 2-0 Burnley: View from the pressbox
Manchester City vs Brighton in the Premier League from the Etihad Stadium - Wednesday, 7.30pm
Brighton midfielder Mats Wieffer is still struggling with a toe injury ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Manchester City.
The Dutch international has missed the last two matches and must also be a doubt for the FA Cup third round tie against Manchester United on Sunday.
Wieffer, 26, has mainly been deployed as a right back this term and experienced defender Joel Veltman is expected to cover at right back once again.
The former Feyenoord man - who joined Brighton in 2024 for around £25m - has made 16 top flight appearances for Fabian Hurzeler’s team this term and is expected to feature for his country at this summer’s World Cup.
Yankuba Minteh is a doubt
Hurzeler also confirmed flying winger Yankuba Minteh remains a doubt with a dead leg sustained in the 2-2 draw at West Ham. Minteh missed the 2-0 win against Burnley and will be assessed ahead of Wednesday trip to Manchester.
Hurzeler said there is a “minor chance” that Minteh can play and added that he’s still “not perfect.” If Minteh is unavailable, it could be another chance for Germany under-21 international Brajan Gruda to start on the right flank.
On the plus side, Kaoru Mitoma should be fit to play from the start once again after his encouring display against Burnley.
The Japan international has fully recovered from his ankle injury that sidelined him throughout November and December.
Solly March (knee), Adam Webster (knee) and Stefanos Tzimas (knee) are the long term absentees.
