Federico Chiesa has been tipped to leave Liverpool this month, but sources on Merseyside have dismissed claims of contact over a return to Juventus.
Federico Chiesa Transfer Rumours: The Latest
The dispute: While Italian reports claim a six-month loan to Juventus is in the works, Liverpool sources have strongly dismissed any formal contact for the 28-year-old.
The role: Despite starting just once in the last four games, Chiesa remains a fixture in Arne Slot’s matchday squads, featuring in 20 of 29 possible games this season.
The context: With Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak currently sidelined and Hugo Ekitike a doubt, Liverpool are highly unlikely to sanction a January exit.
Chiesa has been touted with a move back to Serie A having failed to gain Arne Slot‘s trust as a regular starter at first-team level.
Even in the absence of Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak he has only started once in the last four games – his only Premier League start since May – and come off the bench in the other three.
Having opted to stay, prove his fitness and fight for his place in the summer, Juventus are now claimed to be making a heavier push to bring Chiesa back this month.
Federico Chiesa transfer news: Liverpool respond to Juventus return claims

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano was among those to report on Monday that not only had the Italian side made “formal contact,” but that the forward “would be open” to the move.
However The Athletic’s James Pearce responded on X, with word from inside Liverpool, that the club “have had no contact, either formal or informal, from Juventus.”
It is maintained that Chiesa is viewed as an important part of Slot’s squad with his continued role in the side this season – featuring in 20 of a possible 29 games – evidence of that.

Corriere dello Sport have reported that talks supposedly took place between Liverpool and Juventus on Monday with an initial six-month loan proposed.
Juventus are said to be seeking an option to buy whereas Liverpool would require an obligation to buy in order to recoup their £10 million spend from 2024.
With this strongly dismissed by the 28-year-old’s current club it makes interpreting these new claims more difficult.
Why Federico Chiesa may want to leave Liverpool

The most likely situation would be Chiesa weighing up his options at a crucial juncture: after all, a standout second half of the season could force him back into contention with Italy in a World Cup year.
Chiesa has repeatedly turned down call-ups to Gennaro Gattuso’s squad this season as he focuses on his fitness, but it is clear that he is at least now seen as consistently available to Liverpool.
Italy are of course still not guaranteed a place at this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with a playoff against Northern Ireland in March to determine their fate.

Liverpool can hardly countenance allowing Chiesa to leave at this stage, particularly as Hugo Ekitike joined Salah and Isak on the absentee list at the weekend.
But the frequency of links between the No. 14 and Serie A – which also occurred during the summer with interest from Napoli – suggests there could be some agitation from the player’s part.
