Paul Scholes sends clear message to Manchester United about former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca

Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester United need a new manager after sacking Ruben Amorim.

Following his departure from Stamford Bridge last week, Enzo Maresca is one potential option for them.

As for his former side, Chelsea have turned to Liam Rosenior, who is set to arrive from their sister club Strasbourg.

Hull City – 78 games, 35% WIN

Strasbourg – 63 games, 49% WIN

Are Chelsea making a mistake in bringing him over from Strasbourg?

Having dismissed Amorim on Monday, though, all of the focus is now on United and what they plan to do.

Paul Scholes doesn’t want Enzo Maresca at Old Trafford

Maresca and Chelsea’s divorce has been an ugly one, but the 45-year-old will still have to go down as a success after what he managed to achieve at the club last season. Even so, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes does not want to see him at Old Trafford.

Scholes and his former United teammate Nicky Butt were both asked on The Good, The Bad & The Football whether they would take Maresca as a replacement for Amorim.

In response, the two United icons said “no” despite Maresca’s successful 2024/25 campaign.

Last term, Chelsea were able to win both the Club World Cup and Conference League trophies. They also qualified for this season’s Champions League after finishing fourth.

Nevertheless, Scholes does not want to see the Italian in the Old Trafford dugout.

Why Enzo Maresca joining Manchester United would be bad news for Chelsea

Scholes and Butt should not be too quick to dismiss Maresca. United are going to find it hard to identify a better coach than the former Chelsea boss.

It seems unlikely, but Maresca joining the Red Devils now would not be a positive development for Chelsea.

United are level on points with Chelsea in the Premier League table and Maresca is a very capable tactician. Maresca could easily help United to finish above their rivals, so it would clearly be better for the Blues if he took up a job outside of England.

Chances are United end up with a much worse manager than Maresca, which is what Chelsea fans will want to see.
