Liverpool supporters will hate Fabrizio Romano transfer update as Reds receive ‘formal contact’ …

Fulham 2-2 Liverpool: Match Review

This Liverpool star has been attracting attention this January transfer window

There are already multiple transfer rumours for Liverpool to digest now the January transfer window is open but there’s been an update from Fabrizio Romano that many won’t appreciate.

The Reds are expected to make some changes this month to give themselves the best possible end to the 2025/26 season as possible. After inconsistent results in the Premier League, the reigning champions are now 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Alexis Mac Allister has already accepted that the chance of defending their title has slipped away. Now, Liverpool must aim for top four and whatever business is necessary this month to make it happen.

Federico Chiesa linked with Liverpool January exit, says Fabrizio Romano

While Liverpool are on the market for new signings to bolster their team, they could also sign off on departures of their own.

Ahead of the summer window, the futures of the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Mohamed Salah are uncertain. With Arne Slot now starting to flounder again following two disappointing draws in the league, the club could also see the back of the likes of Federico Chiesa in January.

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the winger’s position at the club, as he continues to struggle for regular game time at Liverpool. Chiesa has played a mere 228 minutes in the Premier League so far this season and has started on just one occasion.

Despite Mohamed Salah being away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Chiesa is still not a starting option for Slot. As his opportunities remain limited, reports have suggested he could be tempted by a move away from Anfield to get more chances to play.

Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano reported that Juventus have made ‘formal contact to show interest’ in facilitating a potential return to Turin for Chiesa. The 28-year-old left the Old Lady in the summer of 2024 but ongoing reports in recent weeks have suggested he could move back to his old stomping ground.

“Juve are looking to add +1 winger this month and Chiesa is appreciated. Decision up to Liverpool and the player, still early stages,” Romano wrote on social media.

Liverpool fans will be unhappy with Federico Chiesa exit links

Chiesa is an effective substitute and has proven he can either turn a game around or inject a boost of positivity. In a short space of time, the Italian has built a strong relationship with Liverpool fans and there is a mutual respect between them, despite his limited time out on the pitch.

If Liverpool opt to offload Chiesa, there will undoubtedly be a ripple of frustration within the fanbase. Not only will supporters think they have been denied a solid player at their disposal but it will be difficult not to feel he didn’t really get much of a chance to fight for his place at the club.

He has even earned a chant on The Kop, to which he said of it earlier in the season: “Since last year I always wanted to give something back, and I think the first appearance I gave them something back.

“But I want to keep on giving them something back because the support they gave to me every match is fantastic. I like the chant, I think there’s nothing wrong with it. I have to give them back more, you know, because the support is just amazing.”
