Liverpool want to complete signing of"unique"defensive"monster"; Reds scouts love him

Liverpool are reportedly among a host of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing highly-rated young Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.

A new defender has to be at the top of the Reds’ wishlist in 2026, with one new signing there arguably needed in the January transfer window, with too much onus on Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate staying fit.

Plenty of high-profile names have been mentioned as options for Liverpool, including Marc Guehi and Nico Schlotterbeck, but now a young star has been mentioned as an option.

According to TEAMtalk, the Reds are “keen” on signing Rennes ace Jacquet, who, at 20 years of age, is seen as a defender with a bright future in the game.

Liverpool are far from the only team in the mix, however, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester United all among the clubs battling to snap him up.

Meanwhile, a recent report claimed that Liverpool scouts are big admirers of Jacquet and are confident that he can “develop into a world-class operator” over time.

Jacquet a great long-term option for Liverpool

Jacquet may not be a household name yet, given his tender years, but it is clear that he has a huge amount of potential, so the Reds should be looking at him as a wonderful long-term option.

The Frenchman has already started 16 games for Rennes in Ligue 1 this season, completing 90.9% of his passes and averaging 4.8 clearances per match, highlighting his ability.

Jacquet has also been lauded by content creator and scout Antonio Mango, who has lauded his many qualities: “Physicality, pace, athleticism and technical ability. True combination of unique elements. Whoever signs him is getting a monster.”

Liverpool should be aiming to sign two centre-backs in the coming months – one who is young and can become a regular starter over time, and one established option who can come straight in as a key man from the off.

Jacquet falls into the first of those categories perfectly, and if the Merseysiders were able to get him in the current transfer window, it would be ideal, followed up by Guehi or someone else in the summer.
