Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool receive formal approach for £180,000-a-week star to leave in January

Juventus have stepped up their interest in re-signing Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Serie A side have reportedly initiated formal contact over a potential deal for the Italy international, who could end up leaving Anfield this month.

Liverpool are expected to make a decision regarding Chiesa’s future following his difficult first part of the season under Arne Slot, with just one Premier League start across 20 games.

Chiesa only joined Liverpool from Juventus 18 months ago on a four-year deal, running until the summer of 2028.

According to Romano, Juventus are looking to bring in a wide forward this month and have identified Chiesa as a target amid his uncertain situation at Liverpool.

Chiesa has made just two Premier League starts since joining the Reds, as well as another in the Champions League, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 34 games across all competitions.

The £180,000-a-week forward was handed his first league start of the campaign last week in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Wolves, when he started on the right flank.

Arne Slot May Retain Chiesa in January

While recent reports have suggested Slot does not have a lot of faith in the Italy international, keeping Chiesa in January remains a possibility for the Dutch tactician, whose attacking options are currently depleted.

Liverpool are without Mohamed Salah, who is away at the Africa Cup of Nations, and have lost Alexander Isak to a worrying injury that is expected to sideline him for several months.

Hugo Ekitike was also unavailable for the 2-2 draw against Fulham on Sunday after picking up a slight hamstring injury.

It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will return in time for Liverpool’s trip to Arsenal on Thursday, while both Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni also remain out with long-term injuries.

Liverpool are maintaining their interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who could be allowed to depart the club during the January transfer window.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, the Eagles have not completely ruled out selling Guehi this month, which would be their final opportunity to cash in before his contract expires in June.
