£88m Liverpool transfer target and another 'quality' player linked to Anfield wanted by European club - journalist

Manchester City are not the only team looking at some of Liverpool’s 2026 transfer targets.

It was reported last week that Antoine Semenyo was close to joining Man City after previously being linked with an Anfield switch.

More recently, it has emerged that Marc Guehi is wanted by the Manchester outfit amid issues in their backline.

Losing out on two experienced, Premier League-proven talents would be a blow for the Reds.

And it has now emerged that two more of their reported targets are also gaining attention elsewhere.

Liverpool targets Yan Diomande and Said El Mala have transfer interest

Yan Diomande was linked to the Premier League champions late last year.

It was reported at the time that his current team, RB Leipzig, would want a fee of around €100m (around £88m) to part ways with the winger.

Another Bundesliga talent has since been mooted for a move to Merseyside, with claims last week that Liverpool are looking at Said El Mala of FC Koln.

Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has previously highlighted El Mala’s ‘quality’, as per Goal, and it’s now emerged that his team are looking at both of the aforementioned players.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg wrote on X/Twitter: “Yes, FC Bayern are also keen on Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and already have him on their list for the coming summer.

“The plan is still to bring in a top talent for the wing, preferably on the left side. Saïd El Mala remains very high on the list. Other candidates are being monitored. In the end, the price will be decisive. Diomande with a contract until 2030 with no release clause. A move after the World Cup is possible.”

Liverpool could decline very soon

At present, there is little to suggest Liverpool are close to completing any first-team deals this month.

Instead, what we are seeing is a number of their transfer targets being backed to potentially join other teams.

Losing out on players to Bayern Munich is not ideal, but the Man City transfers would be a real blow.

The Sky Blues’ dominance over the top flight appears to have finally ended, but as they always do, the Manchester club look set to spend their way back to the top of the game.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are experiencing a massive decline following their title triumph of 2024/25 and do not appear to be doing anything to fix it, whether that is changing managers or strengthening their squad in January.
