The January transfer window is now well underway, with Liverpool remaining open to making opportunistic signings during the January transfer window, with a wide attacker and centre-back identified as priority positions should the right opportunities emerge at the right price.
James Pearce of The Athletic has confirmed that senior club figures expect a quiet month following last summer’s record-breaking £450 million outlay, but recent history suggests the Reds will pounce if suitable targets become available.
On the outgoing front, Federico Chiesa’s situation continues to attract attention, with Juventus making formal contact over a potential loan return to Turin just months after his £12 million move to Anfield. The Italian winger has started just two Premier League matches this season and is reportedly open to a January switch to rebuild his form ahead of the 2026 World Cup
Meanwhile, there has been movement on the academy front, with Forest Green Rovers confirming that Liverpool forward James Balagizi has returned from his loan spell at Forest Green Rovers. The 22-year-old made 10 appearances for the National League side, scoring a dramatic last-minute equalizer against Scunthorpe United before suffering a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined.
Balagizi, who joined Liverpool’s academy at under-11 level for a £9,000 compensation fee after previously being at Manchester City, signed his first professional contract in September 2020. The attacking midfielder has endured an injury-plagued development journey, limiting his opportunities to establish himself at Anfield despite being regarded as one of Liverpool’s brighter academy prospects.
This marks Balagizi’s fifth loan spell since signing professionally, having previously spent time at Crawley Town, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock, and most recently Forest Green.
