What was perhaps most impressive about Chelsea’s draw with Man City on Sunday was not that they pulled it off without a manager, but that they pulled it off without 4 of the team’s true first eleven untouchables.
Moises Caicedo was suspended, then Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez were injured. Wesley Fofana missed the game with illness.

On the subject of the first three, interim manager Calum McFarlane had an important update ahead of facing Fulham tomorrow:
“They are all training today. We have training in a few hours. We will have a better idea after the session,” the Under 21 coach said.
With Caicedo there should be no issue. He just gets a well earned rest. Cucurella’s hamstring injury needs to be treated with great caution, as he’s our only trusted option in that position. Sanchez’s problem seems minor – we just don’t know much about it.
We’d bank on all 3 starting tomorrow, but if Cucurella is given a break until the weekend that wouldn’t surprise us either. Caicedo’s return does create some interesting questions. Andrey Santos did really well as a sub against City, while Enzo Fernandez was also good and scored the late equaliser.
Does McFarlane dare rest Enzo for this game and play a Santos-Caicedo pivot? Or does Santos get left out once again despite a good showing?
In other news…
McFarlane also spoke about Wesley Fofana, who was ill and left out of the squad to face Man City. His prospects for tomorrow sound touch and go at this point.
Enzo Fernandez could never quite find a role in the Enzo Maresca setup – at least one that suited both him and the team. Perhaps things will be different with Rosenior in charge?
