Liam Rosenior's son, Leroy, has recently shared his excitement at the prospect of his oldest son getting the Chelsea job. The Blues confirmed the appointment of Liam on Tuesday morning after Enzo Maresca's departure from Stamford Bridge on New Year's Day.

The former Hull City and Derby County boss arrives in west London from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg on a bumper contract which runs until 2032. The ex-full-back will be in the stands at Craven Cottage to watch Chelsea's trip to Fulham on Wednesday evening.

Rosenior will take his first training session on Thursday and pick his first team away at Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday. He arrives from a Strasbourg side who he guided into Europe last season, another club owned by the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital consortium.

And Liam's dad, Leroy, expressed his joy to Premier League Productions before his son was appointed at Stamford Bridge. In an emotional speech - the former Fulham and West Ham United explained why it was such a big deal for him and his family.

He said: “He happens to be my oldest son and if people didn’t know already and yeah he has been strongly linked.

“And you know if he was to get the job I think it would be absolutely amazing. As a family we’ve been on a journey, you know, my dad came over in in the 50s from Sierra Leone, West Africa, in the 50s you know with nothing but his bags.

“I played obviously professional football in the 80s and the 90s and Liam was around that for a big part. But for a young Englishman to be linked with a job like this is absolutely amazing.

“So look if it was to happen familywise it’d be amazing but you know what, you know why I’m buzzing because he might come home because I might be able to see him.

“I haven’t seen him for such a long time. So for me to see my son regularly it’s been something that I’ve missed. So the reason why I’m really buzzing about it is that he might be home. I might see him more.”

Rosenior has seen his stock rise at Strasbourg, who sit seventh in Ligue 1 and have some former Blues on their books, including Ben Chilwell. They are also top of the Conference League table, having won all but one of their games.

The Englishman shared his delight at being appointed in the club's official statement. The 41-year-old said: “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.

“My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.

“I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do. They will be the foundation of our success. I am excited to work with this extremely talented group of players and staff, to build strong connections on and off the pitch, and to create an environment where everyone feels united and driven by the same goal.

“There is a real hunger to win, and I will give everything, every single day, to help this team compete and win at the very highest level to make everyone connected and proud to be a part of Chelsea Football Club. I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play.

"They are the soul of this enormous, historic and huge football club. I cannot wait to meet you all. I cannot wait to get started.”
