“A Long Way To Go”–Rodri Warns Arsenal As He Makes Bullish Title Race Verdict After Chelsea Stalemate

Man City midfielder Rodri admits he was frustrated that his team dropped points against Chelsea at the weekend.

The draw has left Pep Guardiola’s side 6 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, but Rodri believes there is “still a long way to go” in the title race, despite his disappointment at not securing the win on Sunday:

“It’s frustrating, of course, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. We created enough chances to win the game three or four nil, but this is football. If you don’t take your chances with nothing, they just draw the game. So we have to learn from this. There is still a long way and we just need to focus on the next games.”

“First half was brilliant, enough to score three or four goals. In the second half, we forgot a little bit how to play and they got control of the game, losing easy balls. Sometimes when you defend, defend, defend, they did not have much, but they get a draw. There’s still a long way to go.”

“It unbalances the team every single time a player goes out [injured], but of course, the team has to adjust. It is not an excuse, we have enough talented players to play, but in the second half we lose face a bit. We move on, we have the next game against Brighton at home, and we have to win. We know that this season is going to be long, so we have to keep going and going.”

Injuries could jeopardise Man City’s title hopes

As Rodri mentions, the Cityzens lost two key players against Chelsea. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol could not complete the game, with Guardiola forced into changing both centre-backs.

Neither Dias nor Gvardiol are expected to be available in the short to medium term, and it has sparked speculation that the club could venture into the transfer market in order to keep their title challenge on track.

Can Man City close the gap on Arsenal?

After draws against Sunderland and Chelsea, the focus now turns towards the Brighton fixture on Wednesday night. The Seagulls got back to winning ways with a win over Burnley last weekend following a patch of poor form, but with the game being at the Etihad, the home side will still be favourites to secure victory.

Arsenal, meanwhile, play a day later when they face current Premier League champions Liverpool. The Reds are a pale shadow of what they were last campaign, and there isn’t a lot of hope that they can take points off the Gunners.
