From France: Gary O’Neil on Liam Rosenior path – Appointed by Chelsea owners after Wolves

Gary O’Neil departed Wolves at the end of 2024 after a disastrous spell. When he left, Wolves were 19th in the Premier League and looking towards the drop.

Wolves managed to save themselves but are now in an even worse position, although Rob Edwards has encouraged signs of improvement. O’Neil has been without a job since he left Wolves, and now has an opportunity to get himself on a career ladder.

Liam Rosenior has today been announced by Chelsea as their new head coach. He arrives at Stamford Bridge from sister-club Strasbourg, with both sides in the BlueCo stable.

There’s huge annoyance around the Ligue 1 club, and a feeling they’ve lost all identity. That feeling may be about to grow.

Gary O’Neil is set to be appointed, and under the same plan Rosenior was.

France’s RMC report the former Wolves manager is set to join ‘The Strasbourg Nursery’.

‘The two parties are currently in advanced negotiations, with RCSA hoping to finalise the deal as quickly as possible. In principle, everyone agrees.

‘Gary O’Neil’s profile was not chosen by Marc Keller, the president of Strasbourg, but rather by the leaders of BlueCo. In particular Behdad Eghbali, head of Clearlake Capital, one of the main members of the consortium, who particularly appreciates the English coach.

‘The idea behind this choice is the same as with that of Liam Rosenior: to offer experience to a profile deemed to have high potential by placing him in charge of Strasbourg to prove himself.’

Gary O’Neil can now dream of Chelsea, and Strasbourg fans can pull their remaining hair out.
