A report stemming from Fabrizio Romano on Monday claimed that former club Juventus have made formal contact with Liverpool over a potential January reunion with Federico Chiesa. Just 18 months after pushing the Italian winger out of Turin, the Serie A giants are now exploring the possibility of bringing him back to the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus have officially reached out to express their interest in Chiesa as they look to bolster their attacking options this month. The 28-year-old, who joined Liverpool for a bargain £12 million in August 2024, has endured a nightmare spell at Anfield, starting just two Premier League matches across his entire tenure.
There is also the consideration that it is a World Cup year, and the fact that Chiesa has declined call-ups over the last three international breaks has been strange to say the least.
It’s not secret that Chiesa has struggled badly for minutes under Arne Slot, with the Dutchman seemingly not trusting the winger.
Even with Mohamed Salah away at AFCON from mid-December, the window that should have allowed the 28-year-old to stake his claim never really opened. Of the 19 Premier League matches he has been available for this season, he has been named in the starting XI just once – a situation he can hardly be satisfied with.
The Chiesa story has also been catching plenty of attention in his native Italy, with Gazzetta dello Sport now providing further details of Juventus’ offer.
It is claimed that the Old Lady is pushing for a six‑month loan that could include an option to buy, whereas Liverpool are insisting on guarantees over a permanent transfer so they can recover the €12m paid in 2024. It’s asserted that the Reds are prepared to sanction Chiesa’s exit, but only once Mohamed Salah is back from AFCON, with Arne Slot determined not to leave his side light in forward areas.
Reports from Italy have also asserted that Antonio Conte and Napoli are very keen on the player as well, but are aware that Turin will likely be his destination should he leave Anfield this month.
