Chelsea have 2 of the Premier League’s top 11 players in key position and could soon see…

Chelsea have had their struggles defensively this season, but according to the stats they have the foundation for big improvements.

Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana have performed really when well used together, and their ratings on WhoScored reflect that.

Fofana is the third highest rated central defender in the league with more than 5 appearances. Sadly for the team, he’s only been able to start 8 games as he continues with his careful treatment after a series of bad injuries.

Chalobah, previously in the top 3, has dropped to 11th in the table, but that’s only because of bizarrely harsh 6.59 rating for his performance against Man City at the weekend. If keeping Erling Haaland off the scoresheet at the Etihad and dealing with Jeremy Doku as a sub doesn’t get you at least a 7, we’re not sure what the world is coming to.

Let’s hope 2026 brings plenty more games of this pair together, with lots of clean sheets and improved results. With Moises Caicedo ahead of them, and ideally Marc Cucurella and Reece James either side, we have a really solid unit to work with.

Benoit Badiashile has tried people’s patience too much sadly, but is a solid backup for rotation, then there’s the brilliant youngster Josh Acheampong, plus Levi Colwill to return for next season, plus Mamadou Sarr is coming to join the club too.
