Liverpool are staying on alert with several clubs interested in one of their rivals targets
Liverpool’s hopes of signing Marc Guehi are looking less certain with several of Europe’s top clubs circling for the Crystal Palace defender.
BBC Sport initially reported on the interest from City, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs in Europe to have shown an interest in the player.
Another report from Caught Offside has indicated that Liam Rosenior wants to make Guehi one of his first signings in his new role. He has officially been appointed as Chelsea’s new manager following the departure of Enzo Maresca.
For Liverpool, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update following the news of Man City’s interest. He insists Liverpool are aware of the player’s situation and have been holding talks since August.
He said on X: “Manchester City want to sign Marc Guehi in January as talks started, initial approach made. He’s on the shortlist, as reported [by BBC Sport]
“Liverpool, attentive to the situation and in talks since August. FC Bayern remain in active talks to sign Guehi as free agent.”
The Reds had agreed a deal to sign Guehi on deadline day back in the summer but Palace pulled the plug on the £35m transfer as they did not feel they would be able to sign a sufficient replacement.
The ex-Chelsea man is out of contract at Selhurst Park this summer but the Eagles do not appear keen to let him go in January.
GiveMeSport suggests that it would take an ‘extraordinary offer’ for Palace to sanction a sale. It’s reported they would want more than the £35 million they accepted from Liverpool in the summer. The Eagles are 14th in the Premier League, although they are one of the favourites to win the Europa Conference League.
Speaking about Guehi’s future, Glasner said: “Again I don’t know what will happen in January. It is the 6th today. Honestly I don’t know what will happen. All I know is that Marc will play tomorrow (against Aston Villa). I don’t know what will happen.”
