Potential Liverpool exit: Club have made"formal offer"to sign"world-class"ace in January

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Juventus have made a “formal offer” to bring Liverpool attacking Federico Chiesa back to the club in the January transfer window.

The Italian has continued to struggle for playing time at Anfield this season, with Arne Slot seemingly not rating him highly as a player.

Chiesa has been limited to only one Premier League start in 2025/26 to date, suggesting that his future ultimately lies away from Liverpool.

Now, Romano has taken to X to report that Juve are keen on sealing a reunion with the 28-year-old this month, having handed a “formal offer” to him:

“Juventus made formal contact to show interest in Federico Chiesa over possible return in January. Juve are looking to add +1 winger this month and Chiesa is appreciated. Decision up to Liverpool and the player, still early stages.”

Liverpool need to keep Chiesa until the summer

Chiesa may not be seen as a key man by Slot, but selling him midway through the season would make no sense whatsoever, considering Liverpool are already struggling for attacking depth.

Mohamed Salah is at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Alexander Isak is a long-term injury absentee, so allowing the winger to leave would be odd.

Chiesa can still offer plenty between now and the summer, and it is easy to forget how good he has been in the past, with Alessandro Pierini heaping massive praise on him during Euro 2020:

“He’s world-class. He has all the ability and desire of a great player. If he improves then he’ll be even better than his father [Enrico]. I have loads of respect for Enrico and all he has done to help Federico come on as a player until now.”

There is an inevitability about Chiesa leaving Liverpool in the summer transfer window, unless Slot isn’t in charge then, and a new head coach or manager sees him as an important figure.

It feels like the right time for him to depart, but selling him in January would be a bizarre decision by those high up at Anfield, unless a replacement is being lined up in the coming weeks.
