Alongside Ndukwe, Liverpool are set to sign Talla Ndiaye, and Amara Nallo will be sent out on loan.

As Nallo prepares to leave, another player is returning to Merseyside following a short-term move.

James Balagizi returning to Liverpool

James Balagizi spent the first half of the 2025/26 season on loan in the National League with Forest Green Rovers.

Forest Green are third in the fifth division right now, but only behind the top spot by two points.

However, Balagizi had a bit-part role with the non-league side, only featuring for a total of 159 minutes across seven league matches.

Liverpool have now confirmed via their website that the 22-year-old is heading back to Merseyside on Wednesday.

They wrote in a statement: “Liverpool midfielder James Balagizi will return to the club from his loan at Forest Green Rovers.

“The 22-year-old will link back up with the Reds on Wednesday (January 7) after spending the first half of the 2025-26 season with the National League side.

“Balagizi joined Liverpool as an U11 player and has been part of the senior team’s matchday squad on two occasions to date.”

A defensive midfielder by trade, Balagizi has made 23 appearances, scored four goals and provided one assist for the Reds’ U23 side, but has been unable to break into the first team picture at Anfield.

It remains to be seen whether the player, who is due to become a free agent later this year, will be sent out on loan again.

Meanwhile, it has already been reported that fellow academy product Trent Kone-Doherty could be loaned this month, while Rhys Williams is another who may secure an exit over the winter.
