Latest All-Star voting returns have Cade Cunningham poised for Pistons milestone

Fresh off another starring performance for the Detroit Pistons, Cade Cunningham continues to sit in prime position to make his second consecutive All-Star game.

The NBA announced the latest returns for All-Star game fan voting on Tuesday and Cunningham remains in fourth place among players in the Eastern Conference.

With 1,752,801 votes in the first return, Cunningham only trails the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo (2,092,284), the New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson (1,916,497) and Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers (1,908,978) in the conference.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Doncic leads all vote-getters with 2,229,811 in the Western Conference.

The top five players in voting — comprising 50% fan vote and 25% from both current NBA players and a media panel — from each conference will be honored as starters for the 2026 All-Star Game, which takes place at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Starters will be announced on Jan. 19.

If selected, which is looking like a forgone conclusion, Cunningham would be the first Pistons player to make back-to-back All-Star teams since Chauncey Billups and Richard “Rip” Hamilton in 2007 and 2008.

Earning a starting spot would mark a first for any Pistons player since 2009, when Allen Iverson started the All-Star game in his lone year with the franchise.

Following up an All-NBA Third-Team selection last season, Cunningham has continued to shine as one of the best guards in the league. He’s averaging career highs of 26.7 points, 9.6 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 16 steals per game.

In his latest feature performance, Cunningham posted 29 points, 13 assists, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal in Detroit’s dominant victory over the Knicks on Monday.

Under a new format this year, two teams of U.S. players and one team of international players will compete in a round-robin tournament, featuring four 12-minute games.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Cunningham would be part of one of the U.S. teams.

No other Pistons player finished in the top-20 in the Eastern Conference for the latest batch of voting.

Voting for the All-Star game concludes on Jan. 14 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Fans can vote through the NBA App or at NBA.com and select up to five players per conference daily. Votes count three times on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14.
