Genesee County to welcome new Kroger store with Detroit Pistons appearance

FENTON, MI - A new Kroger store is officially opening in Fenton this month, bringing the national grocery chain’s tenth location to Genesee County.

The store is set to open to shoppers on Jan. 21, at 15100 Silver Parkway in Fenton Village Marketplace, in the space formerly occupied by Family Farm and Home.

Family Farm and Home closed the doors to its Fenton store in January 2025 and relocated to the former Kmart location in Vienna Township.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, marking Kroger’s welcome into the Fenton community.

Fenton assistant city manager Michael Hart previously said the new Kroger store also includes the former Michael’s location that’s attached to the Family Farm & Home store.

The event will include a special appearance by a Detroit Pistons player, though the individual has not yet been announced, according to the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce.

The ceremony will also highlight Kroger’s commitment to giving back, with donations supporting local community organizations and initiatives that benefit families across the area.

Following the ribbon cutting, the store will open for shopping, and guests can take part in in-store vendor experiences, including product sampling and giveaways.

The Fenton location becomes the 10th Kroger store in Genesee County.

Other county locations are in Davison, Grand Blanc, Burton, Flint, Flint Township, Swartz Creek, and Mt. Morris Township.
