Hawks: At least four teams monitoring the market for Trae Young

Shams Charania broke the news that the Hawks, Trae Young, and his representatives are actively working together to find a trade that makes sense. It doesn’t guarantee a deal will come to fruition prior to next month’s trade deadline, but there are several potential suitors monitoring the situation.

Marc Stein was the first to report the Wizards’ interest, adding that a trade could be centered around CJ McCollum’s expiring contract.

“The Washington Wizards have emerged as a legitimate trade destination for Atlanta’s Trae Young, The Stein Line has learned,” Stein reported.

“The teams, according to league sources, have been discussing a trade construction centered around CJ McCollum‘s expiring contract.”

But the Wizards aren’t the only team interested. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Bucks, Timberwolves, and Clippers are all keeping a close eye on what’s happening in Atlanta.

Over the last several months, a narrative has been brewing among national media outlets that nobody would even want Trae Young if he were made available, with several reporters making some pretty outrageous claims. However, now that it’s clear both the Hawks and Young are working together to find him a new home, it appears there is far more interest than those reporters initially speculated.

Nobody should expect the Hawks to receive a king’s ransom for their All-Star point guard. They’ll probably be lucky to net meaningful draft capital at all, but the notion that Atlanta would need to attach picks just to facilitate a deal now feels a bit overblown.
