Federico Chiesa has been tipped to leave Liverpool this month, with speculation linking him to a return to Serie A after struggling to secure a regular starting spot under Arne Slot.
Despite the absence of Mohamed Salah (AFCON) and Alexander Isak (broken leg), Chiesa has only started once in the last four Premier League games, his first start since May, and has come off the bench in the other three.
After choosing to stay at Liverpool over the summer to prove his fitness and fight for his place, reports now suggest that Juventus are making a renewed push to bring Chiesa back in the January transfer window.
Juventus have made “formal contact” with Chiesa, who is open to a move, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, James Pearce of The Athletic reports Liverpool have had no contact and view Chiesa as an important part of Slot’s squad, having featured in 20 of 29 games this season.
Chiesa has repeatedly declined call-ups to Gennaro Gattuso’s Italy squad this season to focus on his fitness, but he is now viewed as consistently available for Liverpool.
Italy, meanwhile, still have to secure qualification for this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a playoff against Northern Ireland in March set to determine their fate.
Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has addressed reports linking Federico Chiesa with a return to the club. When asked about the possibility of the Liverpool winger coming back to Turin, Spalletti told DAZN Italia: “I am pleased that you are giving me some news, because a proper transfer meeting hasn’t actually been held yet, so at least I learn some news from you and I take it into consideration.
“However, as far as I am concerned and as far as I know, the talk is just like that, thrown out there for the moment, but there isn’t anything concrete yet.” Chiesa has two-and-a-half years remaining on his Liverpool contract.
