Key Points

Young and his agents are collaborating with the Hawks on a possible trade before the deadline.

It has been an interesting season thus far for the Atlanta Hawks as they currently sit 10th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 17-21 record.

Of course, Atlanta had a solid start to the season but they have struggled over the last handful of weeks as they have dropped nine of their last 11 games which has them sitting in the final Play-In spot in the East.

Because of their recent struggles, trade rumors have begun to rise surrounding multiple players on their roster, including star guard Trae Young who could opt out of his contract and become a free agent in the offseason after Atlanta did not offer him an extension last summer.

On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Young and his agents are working with the Hawks on a trade ahead of the February 5 trade deadline and it appears as though Young’s time in Atlanta is nearing an end.

Due to this, there may be multiple teams that show interest in the 27-year-old guard this season despite him only playing 10 games thus far due to injuries and these three may be potential landing spots for him.

The Sacramento Kings have reportedly been looking to add a star point guard to their roster after trading away De’Aaron Fox last season and they may target Young.

For the Kings, adding Young would give them a major boost at the point guard position while also giving them a key player to build around if they decide to begin a rebuild this season and a potential star duo of Domantas Sabonis and Young could set themselves up better for the future.

A potential trade for Young would likely involve a package centered around either Zach LaVine or DeMar DeRozan, which could entice Atlanta to make a deal with Sacramento.

While the Miami Heat have had a strong season thus far, they do lack a true point guard which could see them show interest in Young ahead of the trade deadline.

Miami has built a solid core led by Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Norman Powell and if they are able to keep those players on their roster and deal for Young, they could become an even larger threat in the East.

Of course, the main piece of a potential trade would likely be Andrew Wiggins, though the Hawks may want either Herro or Powell to be included, which could cause the Heat to hold off.

There have been reports that the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to add a point guard ahead of the trade deadline, which could see them target Young.

Pairing up Young with Anthony Edwards could give Minnesota one of the best backcourt duos in the NBA and also make them an even larger threat in the Western Conference.

For the Timberwolves to acquire Young, they would likely have to include Rudy Gobert in a potential deal, which could fill Atlanta’s need at the center position, especially if they also look to trade Kristaps Porzingis.

Of course, other teams may also show interest in Young ahead of the trade deadline with rumors linking him to the Milwaukee Bucks, Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks and it appears as though the star guard will be on the move this season with his future in Atlanta in doubt.
