The coroner has launched an investigation after a Merseyside teenager died in Tenerife. Harry Begg, 19, was killed in a road traffic crash on the holiday island on Monday, December 1 2025.

It is understood Harry, from Kirkby, was cycling on the road in Arona in the south of the island when the crash occurred. The alarm was raised at around 8pm. Tragically, Harry died at the scene.

The coroner’s office for Liverpool and Wirral confirmed to the ECHO that Harry's death is under investigation. The coroner was notified on New Year’s Eve and his remains have been repatriated to the UK.

Harry’s funeral took place at All Saint’s Church in Anfield on Tuesday, January 6, the ECHO understands. He was to be laid to rest at Anfield Cemetery.

Family and friends paid tribute to Harry on the day of his funeral, describing him as "one in a million". An investigation was opened by Spain’s Civil Guard following Harry’s death.

Local reports at the time described the incident as a "hit-and-run" and island newspaper El Dia said the Civil Guard was investigating whether the British man had been "murdered".

The newspaper said: "After initial inquiries officers reached the early conclusion that he wasn’t run over by accident."

The Civil Guard confirmed the case was ongoing two weeks after Harry’s death.

Following Harry’s death, roadside tributes were left around a palm tree close to the scene.

Flowers, candles and a Liverpool shirt were left, along with a message that read: "I love you forever wee bro."
