Jonathan Kuminga reaches end of run with Warriors with trade imminent, per report

Kuminga has played his final game in Golden State, as a trade deal is about to happen in the next couple of weeks.

There are questions surrounding the continued DNPs that Jonathan Kuminga is obtaining from the Golden State Warriors. As the forward is expected to get traded once he becomes eligible by Jan. 15, many are wondering why the team isn't letting him play to be able to persuade teams for a potential deal.

But interestingly, ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel revealed that there is a general belief within the organization already that Kuminga won't be playing as a Warrior anymore, as both sides have a mutual understanding that a deal is set to happen in the near future.

"Kuminga and his camp believe it is in his best interest to stay ready behind the scenes and no longer let Kerr's decisions regarding the young forward's minutes impact his value in the eyes of other teams that have interest in him around the league," Siegel wrote. "Not to mention, Kuminga's side doesn't want to risk him getting injured."

Kuminga didn't play in the Warriors' past nine matches, with seven being under DNPs. His last appearance was during the team's mid-December loss against the Phoenix Suns.

He notably signed a two-year, $46.8 million extension last October as a free agent. Kuminga served as a key starter for the Warriors at the initial portion of the season, until his role gradually decreased due to injuries and inconsistencies.

As the Warriors (19-18) are aiming for a final push to compete for a title this year, they are expected to use Kuminga as a primary piece for a significant upgrade before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
