Jorge Mendes Is‘In Contact’With Man Utd As Ex-PL Boss With 60% Win Ratio Expresses Interest In Replacing Amorim

Super agent Jorge Mendes has been “in contact” with Man Utd regarding former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca taking the vacant manager’s job at Old Trafford, according to reports.

Maresca has recently joined Mendes’s Gestifute agency, and TEAMtalk claim that discussions between his camp and the Red Devils about replacing Amorim have taken place.

CEO Omar Berrada is said to be a fan of Maresca, which is not a surprise, as the pair would have crossed paths during their time together at Manchester City.

More significantly, though, Director of Football Jason Wilcox also likes the Italian, who he feels would be able to handle the pressure of managing United. He won 2 trophies at Chelsea, with a 60% win ratio, despite issues behind the scenes.

Maresca is keen on taking the job

It does appear that the club’s admiration for the 45-year-old is reciprocated, with the ex-Chelsea head coach believed to be “interested” in taking the position.

While Maresca may well be in the frame to succeed Amorim, it should be pointed out that there are many other names also in contention.

Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and former England boss Gareth Southgate are potential contenders too, along with the likes of Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Man Utd are looking to appoint an interim manager first

While Maresca may be a candidate to take over at the end of the season, Berrada and Wilcox are reportedly focused on the more immediate term.

The pair are keen to avoid the mistake they made with Amorim by putting a new manager under unnecessary pressure by hiring them midseason.

It is believed an interim appointment is very likely. While Darren Fletcher is currently in caretaker charge, he could be in the running to manage for the rest of the campaign if he does well, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick’s names have also been floated.
