SNY's Ian Begley reported that Denver was "right there" with the Knicks in signing Yabusele this past free agency, until the French star committed to New York.
Last year, Guerschon Yabusele enjoyed strong interest as one of the marquee free agents in the offseason market. An elite 2024-25 campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers ultimately allowed the French star to secure a two-year, $11.7 million contract with the New York Knicks.

But even before the Knicks gained the nod of Yabusele, the Denver Nuggets were also in the race for the big man's service. The Western Conference powerhouse aimed at a significant retooling to continue building around Nikola Jokic.
But with how things have unfolded for Yabusele a few months later in New York, can the Knicks make a deal with the Nuggets around the 30-year-old?
"I’ll go back to the offseason. I know Denver was right there with the Knicks on Guerschon Yabusele in terms of his free-agent decision. Obviously, they’re dealing with Nikola Jokic being out, and their depth looked very good against Philadelphia last night, so maybe they sit pat and don’t look to do anything. I note that because there was real interest there in the summer, so maybe something ends up happening," SNY's Ian Begley said.
"That said, I do think things are more likely to end with Yabusele elsewhere and the Knicks getting back what they can in that move."
Yet after that, it's difficult to say who the Nuggets will attach for more to work a Yabusele deal. Besides, the Knicks will certainly look for the best possible return they can get from Yabusele, even if the veteran is averaging low numbers of 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game this season.
Anything can still happen before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but the Nuggets' past interest in Yabusele could play as a key segment for the Knicks to consider as they look to end their ties with the Frenchman.
