All the latest injury news surrounding Arsenal and Liverpool as they prepare to face off in the Premier League.
Arsenal are back in action on Thursday when they face Liverpool in an interesting-looking clash at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have been on a superb run of late, and they are now six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
Liverpool are currently in fourth and three points ahead of Chelsea in fifth, but they are as many as eight points off the top three. This will be another interesting test for the Gunners as their busy schedule continues, and after this one they will get some hard-earned respite, should Mikel Arteta choose - in the form of the FA Cup.
Geovanni Leoni - Out
Leoni is out long-term with a serious knee injury. Slot said at the time: “He is not in a good place because he tore his ACL, which means he will be out around a year. Being so young and coming to a new country and playing so well in your first game, it's very hard to take the positives. But you try to look at that, and that is that he is still so young, and he has so many years still to go after he recovers.”
Alexander Isak - Out
Isak will be out until March. Slot has said: “It’s going to be a long injury. For a couple of months. That’s a big disappointment for him, and as a result of that, of course, also for us. [I'm] confident he can still play a part at the back end of the season.”
Mo Salah - Out (International)
Salah is at the African Cup of Nations with Egypt.
Wataru Endo - Out
Endo has an ankle issue that is expected to keep him out until mid-January. This one will come a little early.
Hugo Ekitike - Doubt
Slot has said: “He felt something during training, so he went for an MRI scan, and we got the result when we were flying. We were hoping it was just a bit of DOMS (Delayed Onset Money Soreness)... and then we could have used him maybe as a sub, but unfortunately, we saw a little bit more, and then you cannot take a risk.” Ekitike could feature here.
Riccardo Calafiori - Out
Calafiori is not expected to return for another week. Shortly after the injury happened, in late December, Arteta said: “It's something that he felt yesterday, something very awkward that happened, and today in the warm-up he wasn't comfortable.”
Max Dowman - Out
Dowman is going to miss some time, with Arteta confirming: “Yes, so first of all, unfortunately, Max [Dowman] picked up an injury last weekend and had to come off. So he did some scans and he is going to be out for weeks.”
Cristhian Mosquera - Out
Arteta confirmed after the Villa game: “He's going to be out for weeks unfortunately, it's much more than what we expected. But the player was feeling it, so he's going to be out for weeks.”
