After a turbulent week at Chelsea, Alejandro Garnacho has talked more about the mood at the club and why he enjoys competing with — and against — his teammates.
For all the players, the news of Enzo Maresca’s departure has changed the complexion of the season.
Garnacho was sad to see Maresca leave, but he is also aware of the fact that a new manager brings new opportunities, and a chance to mobilise in the pecking order of wide players at Stamford Bridge.
With Estevao Willian, Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto all vying for the same spot as the Argentinian, competition is fierce, but Garnacho recognises that they are all teammates first.

Alejandro Garnacho on his relationship with fellow new Chelsea signings
Garnacho moved past the Maresca topic and went into the bond he has formed with two other summer arrivals.
Appearing on Sky Sports for the interview, Garnacho was asked about the dynamic of that relationship with players who are essentially trying to take your job.
The 21-year-old responds with maturity, saying: “So we are competition but we are all teammates, you know. Sometimes, you have to play. Sometimes, the others have to play and if they score or they do something well, we are happy also.
“You know we are all a team, and yeah, it’s part of football also, you have to fight for your spot, but I think we are all good teammates and it’s a healthy competition.”

That Garnacho and the two youngsters have this rapport is a very good sign. Chelsea plan on competing on all fronts every season, so they need players who can adapt to different roles or levels of importance.
With four players capable of playing on the left, it’s no doubt a high-pressure situation, but one they are handling well.
Jury’s still out on Alejandro Garnacho
The Antoine Semenyo interest should be a warning to Garnacho that neither he nor Gittens have done enough to cement their place on the left flank.
He’s a fascinating player, Garnacho. He has a quite unbelievable knack for finding himself in threatening positions almost every time he plays, but the end product has always been a question mark.

It’s frustrating, because we have seen him be clinical in short bursts at Chelsea, and over a longer stretch at Old Trafford.
Maybe Liam Rosenior can bring the best out of him…
