Chelsea forward Mara Alber will spend the rest of the season on loan at Werder Bremen after the Blues made the big decision to send the striker out in order to get some much needed game time.
The Blues posted on the club website: ‘The 20-year-old joined CHELSEA in the summer from TSG Hoffenheim and played just over an hour in a friendly against Ajax in pre-season, but is yet to make her full debut for the Blues.
‘Alber is a versatile forward who can play on either flank or through the middle and is a regular for the Germany Under-23 national team.
‘Having made her name at Hoffenheim, the youngster now returns to her native Germany in the Frauen-Bundesliga as she looks to gain playing time.
‘Everyone at CHELSEA wishes Mara every success with Werder Bremen, and we look forward to seeing her progress during the second half of the season’.
“We are very pleased that we were able to bring Mara, another German U23 attacking talent, into our ranks. The wing was also thinly staffed overall due to the absence of Tuana Mahmoud, so we are happy to be able to realise this loan,” explains Birte Brüggemann, Head of Girls’ and Women’s Football at SV Werder.
Head coach Fritzy Kromp also sees the striker as a great reinforcement: “Mara is an absolute top talent and one of the greatest young hopes in German football. Mara made her debut for TSG Hoffenheim in the Women’s Bundesliga at the age of 16 and has since been able to prove herself on both the national and international stages.
‘She is a versatile attacking player who likes to look for one-on-one duels with her dynamism and also brings a lot of goal threat with her finishing skills. We are therefore very happy that Mara has decided to go to Werder despite some options.”
The striker said: “I’m really looking forward to the upcoming time at Werder. I was already able to work with Fritzy Kromp in the U17 national team. Their trust was very important to me in the decision to go to Bremen.
‘I hope that I can contribute to achieving all my sporting goals and that I can also develop personally in order to ultimately make my breakthrough at Chelsea. I would like to thank everyone involved who made this loan possible,”
CHELSEA APPOINT ROSENIOR
Former Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior has opened up and admitted that he is very excited to have made the move to Chelsea after the Blues replaced Enzo Maresca with the highly-rated coach.
On new years day, CHELSEA opted to sack Maresca after some stuttering results, and after only a few days of seeking, they decided to bring in Rosenior after being impressed with the job that he done with the French side.
On moving to the Premier League, he said: ‘I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.
‘My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.
‘I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do. They will be the foundation of our success.
‘I am excited to work with this extremely talented group of players and staff, to build strong connections on and off the pitch, and to create an environment where everyone feels united and driven by the same goal.
‘There is a real hunger to win, and I will give everything, every single day, to help this team compete and win at the very highest level to make everyone connected and proud to be a part of Chelsea Football Club.
‘I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play. They are the soul of this enormous, historic and huge football club.
‘I cannot wait to meet you all. I cannot wait to get started.’
STERLING TO MAKE JANUARY MOVE?
Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea appears set for a fresh chapter this January, with the 31-year-old forward widely expected to move on from Stamford Bridge after falling out of favour under successive management teams.
After failing to make a competitive appearance so far this season and spending much of his time training away from the first team, Sterling is actively exploring options to revive his career — and a Premier League exit this month looks increasingly likely.
Despite his status as a former England star and a World Cup contender, Sterling’s spell at CHELSEA has been underwhelming. He was part of the club’s so-called “bomb squad,” spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Arsenal, and has not featured for the Blues since returning, with his last appearance dating back to May 2024.
Among the clubs linked with Sterling, Newcastle United have emerged in recent reports as a possible suitor. According to transfer insiders, Newcastle are among the Premier League teams reportedly considering a move for the winger as they look to bolster attacking options in January. Sterling’s experience and versatility could appeal to Newcastle, who — despite an otherwise cautious mid-season transfer strategy — may see him as a low-risk, high-reward addition.
One of the challenges surrounding Sterling’s move is his preference for a permanent transfer rather than a loan — a desire that has shaped his decision-making throughout recent windows. Chelsea’s wage structure and Sterling’s reported desire to stay in England have narrowed down realistic destinations, with several clubs — including Fulham and West Ham United — linked at various points.
According to some reports, Sterling is particularly keen on joining a club where he can play regularly and remain close to home, with Fulham positioned as an active contender in the race for his signature
For Chelsea, offloading Sterling in January would represent another step in reshaping their squad after a prolonged period of rebuilding. The Blues are eager to trim their wage bill and make room for new attacking talent as they continue to evolve under a new manager.
For Newcastle, securing Sterling would send a clear signal about their intent to compete on multiple fronts — adding a player with vast Premier League experience and international pedigree. Yet, without a formal offer yet lodged, the likelihood of such a move remains speculative for now.
