Manchester City have won the race to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo with the club agreeing to meet the player’s £65m release clause.
BBC Sport have reported that a deal has been agreed ahead of Semenyo’s release clause expiring, as the £65m must be triggered before January 10.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham were all interested in the player alongside City but Pep Guardiola’s side are the only ones to have made the move to sign him. Sky Sports report United made an attempt to sign him as he has been a long-term target for the Red Devils.
Semenyo has scored nine goals and provided three assists for Bournemouth this season and providing an update on the move, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said that a medical has been booked, with it due to take place after the Cherries face Spurs in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
“I told you, no worries, no problems, Antoine Semenyo will play for Manchester City. The here we go is coming soon the player is going to work under Pep Guardiola.
“His final game at Bournemouth will be on Wednesday, then he's going to become a new City player, so all set on that one.”
On his X account, Romano confirmed that Semenyo picked City over the likes of Liverpool as he was keen to work under Guardiola.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola appeared resigned to losing Semenyo before the weekend as he was asked about the player’s future in his press conference on Tuesday.
He said: "I think it could be the last game [v Tottenham]. That is my personal opinion, but there is nothing agreed and nothing signed.
“It is my personal opinion as I understand the market and the noise but there is nothing agreed right now. He, right now, is our player and I hope it continues."
Semenyo’s arrival at City is likely to see one of the club’s current attackers leave, with Brazilian star Savinho linked with a move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
He will not be available for the clash against Brighton and Hove Albion as his medical will take place afterwards. City face Exeter City in the FA Cup this weekend before taking on Newcastle United in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday.
