Fabrizio Romano gives 'here we go' to transfer as Liverpool set to miss out on 'extraordinary' star

It really hasn’t been a great few days for Liverpool on the transfer front.

Going into the winter window, the Reds were being linked with two main players.

After missing out on a summer move, there were suggestions Liverpool could sign Marc Guehi in January.

However, Oliver Glasner name-dropped Manchester City this week when confirming the centre-back could leave this month.

Elsewhere, recent reports have suggested that fellow Liverpool target Antoine Semenyo could join Man City as well.

Fabrizio Romano greenlights Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City

Now, it appears as though Semenyo to Manchester City is all but confirmed.

The winger, whose release clause is thought to be active until January 10, is now expected to move to the Etihad in a £65m deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano also mentions how the Bournemouth ace picked the Sky Blues over four other Premier League teams.

He wrote on X/Twitter: “Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, here we go! Documents exchanged and sealed with Bournemouth. £65m transfer fee, Semenyo to sign long term deal after medical tests on Thursday.

“Semenyo picked #MCFC over 4 PL top clubs as wanted to work under Pep Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola called Semenyo ‘extraordinary’ in October and now looks set to get his man ahead of Liverpool.

What are your score predictions as Liverpool take on Arsenal?

Could we scrape another VERY LUCKY win against them?

Liverpool alternatives to Antoine Semenyo

While Semenyo is now seemingly off the table, there are a couple of other forwards in the Reds’ eyeline.

It is thought that Liverpool are looking at FC Koln’s Said El Mala after an impressive first half of the 2025/26 campaign, which has seen the winger score six and assist three in 15 Bundesliga matches.

Fellow German top-flight talent Yan Diomande was also linked ahead of the winter window opening.

However, it is worth noting that Bayern Munich like Diomande and El Mala as well. Let’s just hope it’s not another Guehi/Semenyo situation.
