Liverpool move closer to first January transfer as Man City plans become clear

The transfer window has been open for nearly a week and there are still plenty of deals to be done across the Premier League. Liverpool are yet to make their first move, but it seems to be on the horizon.Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo have been making headlines as potential significant transfers. However, it appears that Liverpool may have missed out on Semenyo to Manchester City, who have reportedly met his £65million release clause.

Semenyo remains with the Cherries for now, though any delay could spark rumours. Liverpool will be hoping that City don't scupper a deal for Guehi. The Crystal Palace star has been linked with a move to join Pep Guardiola's team, after his transfer to Anfield fell through on the summer transfer deadline day, with City currently dealing with several injuries in defence.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Anfield...

First deal close

Liverpool are in discussions over a deal to sign teenage defender Mor Ndiaye, according to The Mirror.

The 18-year-old plays for Senegalese second-tier side Amitie FC, which is owned by former Newcastle United and Chelsea striker Demba Ba.

Ndiaye impressed at the under-17s World Cup in Qatar, starting all four of Senegal's matches before they were knocked out by Uganda in the round of 32.

Ndiaye is set to bolster Liverpool's Under-21s defensive ranks should the transfer go through, helping to fill the void left by Wellity Lucky's regular involvement with the first team.

Marc Guehi rollercoaster continues

Pep Guardiola has downplayed suggestions that Manchester City will replicate last January's spending spree as speculation mounts over a potential move for Guehi.

Last winter saw City acquire Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov, but reports now suggest the Premier League champions are keen to move swiftly for Guehi, whose Palace contract expires this summer.

The England centre-back's proposed switch to Liverpool fell through last summer, whilst Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also registered their interest.

Speaking ahead of City's upcoming Premier League clash with Brighton, Guardiola's comments didn't completely dismiss January activity.

"Maybe we will get something, but it's completely different [to last year]," he explained.

"We are not going to buy four or five players like happened last season to be the [highest] net spend in this country. We are not, but apparently always we are."
