It's now "almost certain" that "special" Liverpool player will be moving to different league

**Harvey Elliott is “almost certain” to seal a move to the MLS in the January transfer window, former scout Mick Brown has claimed.**

The 22-year-old joined Aston Villa on loan from Liverpool last summer, in order to receive more minutes and kick on in his career.

Elliott’s time at Villa Park has been a huge disappointment, however, with the Midlands club now highly unlikely to sign him permanently at the end of the season and happy to end his loan stint this month.

Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/harvey-elliott-closing-in-on-transfer-after-liverpool-return/), Brown said that the Englishman is now “almost certain” to head to the MLS until the summer, as has been mooted of late:

_“It looks almost certain now he will end up in the MLS._ _The lad has got to be playing football, and it’s become very clear that’s not going to happen at Aston Villa despite what he might have hoped when he joined._ _It’s a real shame, because he’s a very talented player who probably would have been knocking on the door of the England squad if he was playing regularly._

_“Even at Liverpool he was a fringe player and was in and out of the team, but now he’s not even getting those sorts of minutes._ _A move to the MLS is the only way for that to happen at the moment, so that’s the best option._ _He can go out there for six months, focus on just playing and impressing, and then assess the situation in the summer and see what’s available.”_

**Elliott cannot afford to let his talent go to waste**

-------------------------------------------------------

If any Liverpool fan had been told this time last year that Elliott would be playing in the MLS in 2026, they would barely have believed it.

That highlights how disappointing this season has been for him, and while it will only be a short-term spell in America, it is far from ideal, given the drop down in quality.

At 22, Elliott is still a young player, but he cannot afford not to get the best out of his talent, as he reaches a crossroads moments in his career.

If his future doesn’t belong at Liverpool, it is vital that he finds the right club to settle down at, rather than become a nomadic figure who doesn’t reach the heights so many have expected him to, having been lauded as “special” by [Neil Mellor](https://www.empireofthekop.com/2024/12/19/mellor-praise-elliott-special-talent/) in the past.
