Fulham have reportedly contacted PGMOL (Professional Game Match Official Limited) about how Liverpool's Florian Wirtz's goal was allowed to stand in the 2-2 Premier League home draw with the holders on Sunday (January 4).
After Harry Wilson had fired the hosts in front after 17 minutes, Wirtz equalised for the Reds 40 minutes later from a seemingly offside position. Following a lengthy VAR check, the goal was allowed to stand, incensing the Cottagers.
As per amended offside rules for this season, goalscorers have the benefit of the doubt, as they have a 5 cm tolerance limit for tight decisions. Wirtz was adjudged to be within that limit, so the goal stood, but as Standard Sport's Sam Tabuteau, the Cottagers have got in touch with PGMOL for an explanation on the validity of Wirtz's goal.
“We felt the same, many people in the stadium felt the same, but the semi-automatic we have to believe in it. They have to be 100 per cent sure of it. It took a long time for something that should be automatic. They have all the tools to decide it right so let’s hope they did.”
On Tuesday, he added that Wirtz was outside the tolerance limit, so his goal should have been disallowed:
"Now, I have more images, different tools. For me, I cannot believe how that goal was allowed, it was a clear offside. We are still waiting for feedback from the Premier League. Everyone had the same opinion, it was clear. It's much more than 5cm in my opinion."
Following the controversial Wirtz strike, Arne Slot's side thought they bagged the three points when Cody Gakpo scored in the 94th minute, but a stunning curling leveller from Andy Reid three minutes later forced a share of the spoils.
