arsenal fcArsenal have made a formal bid of ₤44 million to Real Madrid for their winger Brahim Diaz.
The Moroccan international is currently away with his country, where he has become one of the stars for their bid to win the African Cup of Nations for only the second time.
The Gunners regard this move as a genuine market opportunity, with Diaz out of favour under Xabi Alonso at Real this season, having made just four starts for them this season.
He already knows the Premier League as well, having previously been on the books of Manchester City, for whom he made five senior appearances before moving back to Spain in January 2019.
Although Arsenal are top of the Premier League, Mikel Arteta has indicated that the club are willing to enter the transfer market in January, to seek reinforcements that will help carry them over the line this season. That is especially after their recent spate of injuries.
