Barcelona’s plan for 18-year-old La Masia defensive talent continues on course

One of the new faces from La Masia to break into the FC Barcelona first-team ranks this season has been Jofre Torrents.

The 18-year-old left-back has not played a lot, but has been consistently in and around the senior setup, working and developing under the tutelage of Hansi Flick, while getting minutes every now and then.

Jofre’s development going as per plan

Now, according to SPORT, Jofre’s introduction to the Barcelona first team has followed the established principles and is continuing on the right course.

Unless circumstances required otherwise, such as injuries or other external factors beyond the control of the coach or the club, the plan for Jofre was clear.

He would progress step by step, becoming part of the first-team dynamic, making occasional appearances, while also being able to play full matches or log significant minutes at regular intervals with Barça Atletic.

That is how things have gone as the 18-year-old left-back has been eased in gradually, gaining experience at the highest level and accumulating minutes.

He is absorbing everything, from training daily alongside some of the best players in the world to following the instructions of Flick and his coaching staff.

So far, Jofre has played four first-team matches this season under Flick, while he has featured ten times for the reserve team, in which he has a goal and an assist.

Flick has included him in the squad for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, where he could win his first title with the Barcelona club. The coming months will be important for him and for his development, which is going as per the roadmap established.
