Liverpool midfielder suffers fresh injury in January 2026

It has not been the easiest few weeks for Arne Slot regarding injuries to his squad. The Dutch manager saw big-money signing Alexander Isak suffer a broken leg against Tottenham in December, requiring surgery and ruling him out until the end of the campaign. His absence has placed more pressure on Hugo Ekitike—who has now also picked up a hamstring issue that kept him out of the Fulham draw.

Elsewhere, Joe Gomez has been sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained against Brighton in December, while Wataru Endo has been out since early December with an ankle problem. However, it seems a new injury blow has hit a player that really needs a few months of momentum.

The Athletic has reported that Stefan Bajcetic has suffered a fresh hamstring injury and is now expected to be on the sidelines until at least the end of January:

“Bajcetic had hoped to be back competing for a place in Liverpool’s first team before Christmas, but has had to deal with a fresh hamstring issue that has thwarted his progress at Anfield and most likely put an end to any chance of leaving on loan in the January transfer window.”

“As Bajcetic is unlikely to be available until at least the end of the month, it means his only realistic chance of football this season will be with Liverpool’s under-21s, unless he can somehow force his way into the first-team picture.”

Liverpool fans would be forgiven if they forgot that Stefan Bajcetic is still technically part of Arne Slot’s squad this season. The Spaniard has not featured even a minute so far this campaign after he remained on Merseyside despite heavy loan interest in the summer.

His situation is starting to be a concern, as he is now 21-years-old and last featured for the first team 613 days ago.
